NEWS: Though girl groups currently reign the music world, female singers that are to return this month are garnering much attention.
Lee Hyori and BoA will both be releasing a new album in Korea this year. Lee Hyori is the best sexy icon, whereas BoA, who still has a really strong Korean fanbase, received recognition from Japanese and American fans.
The first to return is Hyori. When she released her third album back in 2008, people started referring to the "Hyori Effect." The fourth album has been continuously pushed back since last year, but we finally have a confirmed release period. Her company expressed that the album will be released in March.
BoA also plans to release a full album this year in Korea. This is her first album back from her five years' departure of the Korean music scene. Her company, SM, said, "We're preparing the album right now. For her return this year, we have been collecting songs from various composers."
Since releasing her fifth album and promoting "Girls on Top" back in 2005, she has been active in Japan and the United States. This year is also BoA's 10th year debut anniversary. Since BoA's first album was released on August 25 ten years ago, it is estimated that her album will drop sometime in August.
Representative female singers like Lee Hyori and BoA's returns may signal an end to the girl group and idol group reign of the Korean music scene. Their returns also give solo singers hope. A related source said, "It's the truth that solo singers were demoted because of girl groups and idol singers. Lee Hyori and BoA's returns will attract more attention to solo singers."
